An aerial view showing the older, busier part of Saltburn. A much greater area of the town that includes 1930-1970 residential development, the schools, churches, the caravan site, the football and cricket fields, the golf course and the road to Marske is out of view to the right.
This perspective gives few clues that the town sits well over 100ft above the beach - the area between the two that is criss-crossed by paths is actually quite steep.
This black-and-white picture of Saltburn (for which I thank Reference_Library@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk) has been described as being taken in 1966, but clearly that's not the case since not only is the Ha'penny Bridge missing - it was there until just before Christmas 1974 - but the brine baths are gone and that particular building would still have been visible until July 1976, so this picture is after that date. In addition, there is a number of modern-looking apartment blocks in the foreground on Marine Parade overlooking the sea that definitely weren't there in the 1960s and they don't even look very 1970s either!
