Welcome to SaltburnbySea.com ...
... for local people, by local people, supporting local businesses.
Saltburn by the Sea has maintained much of its original charm as a Victorian seaside resort including its pier, the colourful Italian Gardens and walks through Riftswood. Saltburn has the oldest water balanced cliff tramway in Britain that is still in operation, linking the town with the pier 120 feet below. You can park at sea level where the old fishing village straddles Skelton Beck. The Ship Inn remains as a focal point, steeped in smuggling folklore. The Cleveland Way passes through along the coastline and follows a steep path up to Huntcliff, once the site of a Roman Signal Station.

Book Advent. Day 10
When there's flooded fields and impassible roads it strikes me that there’s no more fitting book to be reading at Christmas than Lucy M. Boston’s The Children of Green Knowe. The weather plays a central role in the book, the plot turning on a new twist in the winter conditions, from floods to snow, ice to thunder storms.
The story begins with seven-year-old Tolly taking a train through a flooded English landscape. Thankfully his journey is not held up due to signal failures between Paddington and Slough, and he arrives safely at the aptly named Penny Soakey. It’s then on by car and eventually boat to his Great Grandmother’s home, just in time for Christmas.

Please be clear of the cliffs between Saltburn and Skinngrove 3 hours after LOW tide. The rocks at Redcar are dangerous just one hour after LOW tide. Please use the beach between the red and yellow flags when the lifeguards are on duty, and if someone is seen in difficulties then dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
